What is the Link Checker?

The Link Checker is designed to offer a reliable method for verifying the authenticity and functionality of hyperlinks embedded within various digital assets such as SCORM objects, page objects, and ILIAS learning modules and to deliver reports of broken links within these objects.

Creating a Link Checker Notification

1) Navigate to the Link Checker area of the LMS by clicking the 'Link Checker' entry on your main menu.

Figure 1 Shows the Link Checker icon on the Main Menu

Clicking on the toolbar item will bring the user to a table with existing link checker notification items. This will show their title, frequency, what assignments the job is assigned to check, the recipient that will be emailed the results, status, and an actions section. Since we have not created a link yet, this table will be empty.

Figure 2 shows the list where current Link Checker Notifications are displayed.

2) Click the Create subtab

Details Options
Title: the title of your notification, this is for internal use only
Send To: This is the list of recipients that will be emailed with link checker report results. For multiple recipients, separate the email addresses with commas.
Exclude Intranet URLs: If you would like the link checker to ignore any intranet links in courses, click this check box.
Flag All Youtube URLS: If you would like all youtube links in the assignments to be flagged regardless of operational status, click this checkbox. They will be listed on the mail out in a separate section.

Frequency Options
For frequency, the options are days, months, and weeks and a number can be entered in the "Every" input box.
Ex: If you want this to run bi-weekly, you would need to set it to Every: 2 and Week(s) in the drop-down.

Once all the required options have been entered, click "Save and proceed" to create the notification.

The next step for link checkers is to add assignments for the link checker to scan through.

Assignments can be filtered by type name and status at the top of the table for easier searching. Once all your assignments have been selected, click save and you will be brought back to the Link Checker Notifications view and you will see your new notification with the assignments you have selected.

When a new notification is created, it is going to have a status of "inactive" so it will not run on the given frequency until it is set as active from the actions drop down. If you need to edit any of the notification settings or the assignments, or delete the notifications, these options are also available in the action's menu.
