Creating a Group

What is a Group?

Groups are primarily used for teamwork and working in study groups.

They are similar in function to courses with some fundamental differences:

    - A course can contain a group, but a group cannot contain a course.
    - Groups have a limited amount of functionality compared to a course.

There are two types of groups: Standard Groups and Closed Groups. In a standard group, the registration for the group is determined by the Registration Type setting. However, in a closed group, the owner of the group has full control over who is a member of the group as there are no self-registration options.

Closed groups are completely invisible to non-members.

Adding a Group

1. From the main navigation bar, click ‘Course Library’, then ‘Course Library – Home’.
2. Click ‘Add New Item’ followed by ‘Group’.

3. A new screen will open, type the group name in the ‘Title’ field. Choose whether the group will be viewable by non-members by clicking the radio button next to ‘Default’ or ‘Closed Group’. Then click ‘Add Group’.

4. Manage group members by clicking on the ‘Members’ tab on that group screen once it has been created.
